On 2.13.26, Miss Jill Scott released her highly-anticipated album, To Whom This May Concern, marking her first full project in over a decade.

In Anticipation

This isn’t just another release date. It felt like a moment we were meant to prepare for. Jill Scott has always made music that arrives with purpose. She doesn’t chase trends or timelines. Her music meets you where you are, when you’re ready. So a decade-long wait didn’t feel like distance. It felt like intention. This post began as anticipation. Now, it continues in reflection.

Some music hits your ears. Jill’s music reaches your chest.

After the First Listen

This album brought so much anticipation, and rightfully so.

Jill stays true to herself. We knew it would be authentic. We knew it would be just good, ole music to sit with and really listen to. And that’s exactly what she gave us.

Jill’s music makes you pay attention to the lyrics. For me, that meant listening over and over again to really grasp what she’s saying. It’s not surface-level music. It requires presence.

I saw someone say she’s a poet who just happens to be a great singer, and I couldn’t agree more.

Take away the music and just leave the words, and you have pure poetry. Take away the words and just leave the instrumentals, and it’s still perfection.

That’s how strong the foundation is. The production stands on its own. Then you add her voice back in, and everything just sounds plain good.

Not overdone. Not forced. Just good music.

The Songs That Stayed With Me

“Be Great,” “A Universe,” and “To B Honest” are my personal favorites.

“Be Great” is the message for me. That’s the one that connects directly to how this album made me feel, more intentional, more aligned, and more committed to loving myself better. It feels like encouragement. Like a reminder to move with purpose and choose yourself fully.

“A Universe” and “To B Honest” feel a little more personal in a different way. They remind me of a special person. They’re the kind of songs I’d add to a playlist made specifically for them. The kind of records that say what you may not always say out loud.

What This Album Left Me With

This album will definitely be added to my collection forever.

It’s uplifting in a way that feels grounded. It makes me want to be more intentional in everything, how I love, how I show up, how I move. It even makes me want to love myself better.

That’s the kind of impact Jill’s music has. It doesn’t just sound good. It shifts something in you.
